Nature's Deadly Delights

Carnivorous are a fascinating group of plants that have evolved to supplement their nutrient intake by capturing and digesting insects. These unique plants have adapted to nutrient-poor environments, such as bogs, swamps, and wet forests, by developing specialized leaves that resemble pitchers.

Carnivorous come in a variety of shapes, sizes, and colors, each with its own unique adaptations for capturing prey. The color and pattern of the pitcher can also vary depending on the species and its environment.

Plant Care Guide

  • Light🌞: Need good bright light; or full sun close to or in a window.
  • Water💧: keep damp but not sopping wet. Will need to be watered at least once per week or in a dish to top up with water. YOU CANNOT USE TAP WATER, DISTILLED OR RAINWATER ONLY. No misting but do like regular humidity of your home, no misting required.
  • Temperature🌡️: Warm for most of the year, can tolerate some cooler temperatures, but prolonged low temperatures will send it into dormancy. This dormancy is important for their long-term health. Like an animal in hibernation. They need about 3-4 months dormancy ideally. Drain off the excess water and pop it into a cool spot. Then start of February put in window or under daylight bulbs so they can come back.
  • Feeding🌱: no plant food. Needs live food not dead bugs. Can get some inside like fungus knats or small long-legged flies or ants. You can also catch some and feed it. No need to remove insects from ptchers
  • Grooming🫶: A pitcher may die off after digesting the fly. Cut off any black pitchers as they are dead. Repot when over-flowing from the pot. No terracotta pots. Use Carnivorous soil mix. Ideally cut off any flowers as soon as you see them. Do not keep in a terrarium. Don't allow to flower! Cut off flower stem as soon as it grows
